Classroom Management
A Kind Word Goes a Long Way
We all give our best where we feel affirmed and valued. Thus I operate my class on a very strong commitment to value your child on as many different levels as I can while not only in my class but throughout the whole school as well. It is my goal to speak words of affirmation into your child's life. A kind word can go a long way with anyone.
Tickets
I operate a ticket system in my class where students can earn tickets throughout the class time for displaying positive behaviors. I may not catch everyone every time but I will do my best to affirm students who are being leaders and role models for others. Once a ticket is given out it is the responsibility of the student to care for that ticket throughout the class period. At the end of class students will be given a time to put their name on the ticket and drop it into the classroom envelop. Every few weeks we will have a drawing from each class for small prizes. A student can win a prize only once per drawing but if a student's ticket is pulled more than once they will be recognized with a round of applause and allowed first choice at which center they would like to start their free choice day PE time.
Classroom Report Cards
Each day students come to PE they will be given a group grade with a total of up to 5 points possible. These points are recorded on the Classroom Report Card Score Sheet. The number of tickets drawn on the Free Choice Day per class is based on the number of 5 point days given to the whole class. The more 5 point days the whole class has, the larger the number of tickets will be drawn for prizes. The class earns one point for the following behaviors:
1. Enter the gym appropriately
2. Listen to the teacher
3. Teamwork listen and kindness to peers.
4. Give your best.
5. Line-up correctly without a reminder of what a good line looks like.
Grading
Students are aware, beginning the second week of school that I will mark a daily citizenship grade for each of them based on what they showed me in their behavior. These grades are my way of deciding where students fall on the district progress report.
See the grading policy for more on progress reports and grading.
